You draw the line, not a radius somebody else chose

Most apps guess. They take your location, pick a radius, and hand you a city forty minutes away while missing the village ten minutes down the road.

Drawing a custom area on the map in Headed Out Local: a shaded outline of 21 points around the greater St. Louis area, from O'Fallon to Alton, with Place points and Draw freehand options and a Save region button

Pick towns by name

Search any town in the United States and add it. The list covers around a hundred thousand real settlements, so the one you mean is in there even if it is three hundred people and a gas station.

Or trace it with your finger

Draw a shape on the map: your side of town, the stretch between two towns, the few miles around where you work. Take a whole county in one go.

Change it whenever you like

Borrow an area for a few days while you are travelling, then drop it.

Every event is a coloured dot by what kind of thing it is

Festival, performance, competition, class, conference, gathering - so you can spot what you like without tapping. Turn off the kinds you do not want and they disappear.

It works anywhere - and here is the honest part

You can set this up in any town in the country today. Whether there is much on depends on who is posting there. Some areas are busy; some are just getting started. If yours is quiet, that is an opening rather than a dead end.
